Understanding Photo-catalytic Oxidation
(Hydroxyl Radicals)
Photo-catalytic oxidation is being used and endorsed by leading institutions world-wide, and has been widely praised for its successful role in combating the Avian Bird-Flu and SARS outbreaks.
When the patented, nano-sized particles in the Garbage Doctor's disinfection chamber have been activated by a specific bandwidth of Ultra-Violet light, they create a catalyst reaction with moisture in the ambient air. This reaction creates Hydroxyl Radicals (-OH). Hydroxyl Radicals are an extremely powerful oxidiser which only have a life span of a fraction of a second.
The end result, is that as air passes through the disinfection chamber in the Garbage Doctor, these Hydroxyl Radicals safely and effectively decompose harmful airborne pollutants, including; Odours, Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi, and Volatile Organic Compounds.
Below is a diagram representing how Hydroxyl Radicals decompose unwanted pollutants into harmless water and carbon dioxide;
