Commercial garbage deodoriser

The Garbage Doctor® is designed and built here in Australia to control garbage odours in compactors, chutes and bin rooms, 24/7. The Garbage Doctor is widely used by strata committees, building managers and hotels to stop odours becoming a problem in the building's common areas.

How the Garbage Doctor® works

A garbage chute draws air upwards, like a chimney. Odours from the bins at the base of the chute become airborne, travel up the chute and escape at the chute doors on every floor. The Garbage Doctor targets the bins and the chute, so the air is treated before rising up the chute.

  1. Air enters the machine through a carbon filter.
  2. UV lamps inside the machine turn a little of the oxygen into ozone.
  3. PVC conduit carries the ozone to the targeted odour source, such as the bins and the chute.
  4. The ozone breaks down the odour and turns back into oxygen.
Inside the machine: how the machine makes ozoneA concept view of the machine with its door open. Air comes in through the carbon filter along the bottom and rises past the glowing UV lamps. Some of the air turns blue: that's ozone. The ozone leaves through the two outlets on top, into the conduit to the bins and the chute. A number marks each step’s part of the machine. Air in Ozone out

Ozone is oxygen with a third atom, loosely held. When ozone meets an odour molecule, that third atom joins the molecule and destroys the molecule by oxidation, without masking, and the ozone turns back into oxygen. Customers generally notice a difference within about 15 minutes of installation.

When they meet, ozone’s third atom leaves the ozone molecule and joins the odour molecule, and the odour is physically destroyed. The Duo: ozone in the bin room, a fragrance in the chute

The Garbage Doctor Duo's main unit (A) is stainless steel, mounted on the bin room wall. Grey PVC conduit runs along the wall where the bins are kept, with small holes to release the ozone just above them, and flexible hose takes the ozone into the recycling and general waste bins under the chute, so the odour is neutralised before being drawn up the chute. The scent tank (B) sends a scented vapour through a white pipe into the chute, and a little escapes around the chute door on each level, so residents notice a clean, pleasant smell. There's a choice of popular fragrances.
