Treat the garbage odours before they travel through the building
Odours are unpleasant in any bin room, and if you have a chute, the smell from those bins is drawn up and escapes through the chute access doors on every floor. The air in the bin room is the air that travels up the chute, so that air has to be treated early, as close as possible to the source, which is typically either the bins, the compactor or the carousel. The Garbage Doctor® Ozone achieves this by targeting the ozone via PVC conduit at the source and into the chute itself (if you have one), so the odour is broken down before reaching the public spaces.
How the Garbage Doctor Ozone works: UV ozone travels through conduit to the bins and into the garbage chute, so the odour is neutralised before rising.

Stainless steel, mounted on the bin room wall, usually at the base of the chute. Inside, UV lamps turn a small amount of the air's oxygen into ozone.
Air enters through a carbon filter along the bottom of the machine.
Grey PVC conduit runs from the machine above the bins, with small holes drilled wherever ozone is needed. Treating the air as close as possible to where the odour starts breaks the odour down before the air is drawn up the chute.
Flexible silicone hose carries the ozone down into the bin under the chute, where the odour starts.
The conduit carries ozone into the chute itself too. The chute pulls air upwards like a chimney and lets the air out at the chute doors on every floor, so the odour is broken down before reaching the hallways.
How the Garbage Doctor® makes ozone
- Air enters through a carbon filter along the bottom of the machine.
- The air passes UV lamps, which turn a small amount of the air's oxygen into ozone.
- The ozone leaves through the outlets on top and travels through PVC conduit to the bins and the chute.
- When the ozone meets the odour, the ozone breaks the odour down and turns back into oxygen.
Switch lamps on and off to see how the output changes. Blue lamps are full strength. Green lamps are half strength.
Installed and serviced by our licensed technicians
The Garbage Doctor Ozone mounts on the bin room wall, usually at the base of the chute. Our technicians run grey PVC conduit from the machine above the bins, with small holes drilled wherever ozone is needed, and a flexible hose down into the bins under the chute and into the chute itself. Then they set the ozone output for your site. Every site is a little different, and the Ozone suits all configurations, including bin rooms without a chute, compactors, wheelie bin carousels, grease traps and loading docks.
We'll plan the installation for your building
You are welcome to send us photos or a video of your bin room and chute, or we can meet you on site, whichever suits you best. We'll recommend the right model and send you a quote, and our technicians install and set up the machine for your site. The Garbage Doctor works with chutes, bins, carousels and compactors from all manufacturers, including Elephants Foot, WasteTech, JJ Richards, Wanless, James Hardie and JD MacDonald.
Rented or bought
Our fully inclusive rental covers the equipment itself, all consumables, servicing and maintenance. Bought outright, the Ozone has a 48-month on-site warranty.
Serviced on site
Our technicians are licensed electricians. They service the machine, with an electrical test and tag at every service, throughout Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Airlie Beach, Tweed and Auckland. Call 1300-ODOURS (1300 636 877).

Questions about the Ozone
Do we need the Ozone or the Ozone HD?
Most buildings need the standard Ozone model. The HD may be recommended for the very tallest chutes, large spread-out bin rooms and long runs of conduit. Bigger isn't better: in a small or medium bin room, the HD's stronger fan makes the ozone level harder to set just right. We'll recommend the one that suits your building.
Will the bin room smell of ozone?
The bin room shouldn't. We set the output so the odour is neutralised and a neutral smell, or a very slight smell of ozone, is left, and our technicians measure the ozone level on site with an ozone monitor.
How does ozone remove the odour?
Ozone is oxygen with a third atom, loosely held. When ozone meets an odour molecule, that third atom joins the molecule and destroys the molecule by oxidation, without masking, and the ozone turns back into oxygen.
Can the machine corrode a steel chute?
No. The Garbage Doctor makes ozone with UV lamps, not an electrical spark ("corona discharge"), so the machine makes no nitric acid, which has been known to cause corrosion in steel chutes.
Does the Garbage Doctor work for compactors, loading docks and grease traps?
Yes. The conduit can be used to target the ozone to any odour source.
Can the machine add a fragrance?
Yes. Garbage Doctor Scenting can be added, if you have a preference, to scent the chute once the ozone has neutralised the odour. If you know you want the scent from the outset, then you are best to choose our Duo model, which does both from one system.
